Every time you type a query into Amazon’s search bar, the platform takes note. It uses this information to tailor your shopping experience, showing you products it thinks you’ll like. While this can be helpful, sometimes you might want to clear that record for privacy reasons or simply to get a fresh start with your recommendations.
Whether you’re planning a surprise gift or just want to declutter your digital footprint, knowing how to manage your search history is a useful skill. The process is straightforward and gives you control over the data Amazon associates with your account.
Clearing Your Amazon Search History on the Website
If you’re using a computer, start by going to Amazon.com and logging into your account. Hover over Account & Lists in the top right corner. From the dropdown menu, click on Browsing History. This will take you to a page filled with items you’ve recently viewed and searched for. On the right side of the page, you’ll see the option to Manage history. Clicking this reveals two clear choices: Remove all items and the option to turn off the browsing history recording feature entirely. You can also remove individual searches by clicking the Remove button directly below each query.
Removing Search History on the Amazon Mobile App
The steps are quite similar on your phone or tablet. Open the Amazon app and tap the hamburger menu (the three lines) in the bottom corner. Scroll down and select Browsing History. You’ll be presented with the same list of your recent activity. To delete a single search, simply swipe left on it and tap Delete. To clear everything, tap the three dots (or “More”) in the top corner and select Clear all.
Why Managing Your Search History Matters
Taking a moment to clear your search history does more than just hide your past queries. It directly influences the product recommendations you see on your homepage and in promotional emails. If you find that your suggestions are no longer relevant or are cluttered with items from a past project, a quick history wipe can reset your recommendations to better match your current interests. It’s a simple way to refresh your Amazon experience.
By knowing how to access and delete your search history, you take an active role in shaping your online shopping environment. It’s a quick process that helps keep your account feeling current and personalized just for you.
